Lisa and Josh met in 2008, when she first came to the U.S. to work as an au pair for Josh’s own nieces, at their Virginia farm. Over the next two years, Lisa and Josh grew to be friends, and stayed in touch even as she returned to Germany for college. Lisa came back to the States for good in 2013, and after about a year, Josh proposed during a spontaneous picnic on the beach in Chincoteague during his family’s annual 4th of July vacation. Their first marriage ceremony was small and intimate. About a year later, they celebrated with family and friends during a wedding ceremony and reception at Shadow Creek in Purcellville, Virginia. But first, we met up with them for a romantic portrait session at Harper’s Ferry, West Virginia early this summer.
In late August, everyone gathered in Northern Virginia to celebrate with Lisa and Josh…

The day truly was a family affair, with hair and makeup by Lisa’s sisters-in-law, Kate and Kristy, and lots of laughs provided by her flower girl nieces.

Matron of honor, Jaime (Lisa & Josh’s sister-in-law), handled the flowers.

Some of Lisa’s friends from Germany, neighbors who all grew up together, managed to make it to the ceremony!

The reception area was filled with awesome little details, especially the kids’ table!

Lisa and Josh entered the reception with a German tradition of cutting their way through a giant sheet in the shape of a heart…

…But instead of the groom carrying his bride through, Lisa took charge of the situation!

Matron of honor Jaime got emotional during her speech, explaining how Lisa started out as her daughters’ au pair, but soon became a friend, and now a sister.

After some outdoor games of corn hole, it was time to get down to dancing, courtesy of Will Shepard of Shepard Sounds.

Girl Meets Cake created this lovely little number.

Guests were invited to help paint a unique piece of art throughout the reception.

And then it was time to get their “shine” on, with a sparkler sendoff!

Lisa and Josh were also game to try out our Pixel Stick and do some light painting at the end of the night! So fun… Congratulations and here’s to many years of happiness, you two!
