We first met up with Kyra and Robby back in the fall of 2012 for a Baltimore-based engagement session. We knew these two were going to be loads of fun to work with! Their laid-back session included a stop for a soft pretzel and ended in picturesque Federal Hill. Fast forward a year, to mid-October of 2013, and it was time to get married!
Kyra and all the ladies prepped for the wedding day at her parents’ home, with help from Angela and Christine of Wedlocks. It was a lovely setting, filled with natural beauty.
Lovely flower arrangements were provided by Ann’s Garden.
Kyra spent countless hours hand-writing the addresses onto her invitations, and we love the results!
Meanwhile, Robby and the boys were getting ready at a nearby hotel.
And a furry friend was wondering what all the fuss was about!
There’s no doubt from whom Kyra inherited her expressive face!
The ceremony took place at the Orthodox Church of St. Matthew in Columbia, an absolutely beautiful place!
After abundant blessings at the rear of the church, Kyra and Robby proceeded up the aisle together, behind the deacon and the rector.
During the betrothal, the rings are blessed over the heads of the bride and groom three times then placed on the right hand. This signifies that in married life, the weakness of one partner is compensated for by the strength of the other.
The candles symbolize the spiritual willingness of the couple to receive the light of Christ, who blesses them throughout their marriage. During the actual rite of marriage, crowns are held above the couple’s heads by the maid of honor and best man. The bride and groom are crowned as the heads of their own kingdom, the home, with which they will rule with wisdom, justice, and integrity.
And when it was all over, a quiet kiss, away from the crowd.
Following the ceremony, the rain held off long enough for us to head over to Historic Ellicott City.
Then, it was reception time at the lovely Grey Rock Mansion, which overlooks the historic birthplace of John Eager Howard, a former governor of Maryland.
Baltimore Cakery was responsible for this tasty work of art.
Guests got a little crazy, thanks to tunes by DJ Z Music and, of course, our own wacky photo booth, the Silly Station!
A sparkler sendoff was a perfect way to end the night! Many thanks to our assistant for the day, Stefanie Harrington, and to Kyra and Robby and their families! We so very much enjoyed witnessing the beginning of your married life.
