Kristen and Lucas met in the ninth grade, as members of their high school band. A few days before Kristen graduated college, Lucas surprised her with a romantic stroll and an engagement ring. They married on a hot and sunny July day at Baker Park’s bell tower in their hometown of Frederick. We were so impressed with all of the colorful, gorgeous homemade details that Kristen and Lucas wove into their wedding and reception at the William Talley Recreation Center. Kristen and the girls got ready at her grandmother’s house, not far from Baker Park.

 Lucas and the guys used his parents’ place to tie on their bow ties and clip on their suspenders.

Meanwhile, over at the Talley Rec Center, all of the special details were getting set up before the ceremony started…

The bright, colorful floral arrangements made by a friend provided a perfect pop of color.

There was gorgeous color everywhere! We especially loved the special handcrafted frame used to suspend paper lanterns above the dance floor.

Soon, it was time for the ceremony on the steps of the bell tower, heralded by a brass band.

Kristen’s brothers provided ring security.

We adore the fluttery streamers set up at the beginning of the aisle. They looked amazing as Kristen and her dad made their way to Lucas.

We’ve spent many afternoons under this willow tree. It gives the best shade, and serves as a gorgeous backdrop.

Kristen’s grandparents would have celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on the same date, and to honor them, Kristen carried a tiny photo of them on her bouquet.

The Talley Center gym is a great place to host a reception. We love its old-timey feel!

Nothing like some good, old-fashioned barbecue from Just Smokin’ Around catering.

So many different kinds of homemade pie… Kristen and Lucas have some great bakers in the family!

What a party! And it ended with a hilarious rice toss that proved kinda painful for the new husband and wife!
